  <title>Why visual inspection complements routing KPIs</title>

<p>Aggregate indicators summarize important dimensions of a routing solution. Service rate, waiting time, distance, utilization, runtime, and rejected requests describe what the system achieved.</p>
<p>They do not show every movement that produced the result. Route replay adds this spatial and temporal view.</p>

<p>During mobility-on-demand experiments, visual replay revealed vehicles concentrating in high-demand areas, ignoring diminishing returns, or moving in cyclic patterns. Direct inspection made these behaviors easier to diagnose.</p>

<p>The same approach later supported the Transportation and Logistics Management course. Students inspected solver outputs and checked whether the resulting routes behaved as expected.</p>

<p><a href="https://viaviz.logisticslab.io">ViaViz</a> grew from this research and teaching need. The workbench complements quantitative evaluation with visual inspection of routes, waiting, delays, service, and dispatch behavior.</p>
